What is Bank PO?

Bank PO (Probationary Officer in a bank) is the starting level appointment for officers in a bank. PO joins the bank as Asst manager after the end of probation period depending upon their performance. During the probation period, the PO will have to take the assignment from their senior managers and give their best for the completion of work in order to understand the process effectively. The probation period is a learning phase and continues up to two years. It is very important to be decent during probation period as the PO can be terminated if bank doesn’t find them fit for the organization.

Generally banks announce advertisement for recruitment of Probationary Officers almost every year.

To apply for Bank PO Examination, Students must have a graduation degree from a recognized University and age should between 21 To 30 years. The examination is held in 2 phases, Common Written Examination and Common Interview (If Exam is conducted by IBPS) & by SBI & Its Associate banks, the examination is held in 2 phases also i.e. Written Exam- (Objective Test & Descriptive Test) and Group Discussion & Interview.

The candidates, who wish to join bank as PO; have to clear the written exam, group discussion and the interview round to be selected

In Objective Type Paper you will gets questions from Reasoning, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness and form Computer Knowledge.

And In Descriptive paper questions from English Composition like Essay, Precis and Letter Writing etc are asked. After clearing these examinations, students are called for the Group discussion and Personal Interview Session and then finally get selected as a Probationary Officer.

Probation Period of Bank PO: Normally, the probation period for PO is of 2 years. The probation period can be also considered as the learning phase. Hence it is extremely important to be in good conduct during probation. Banks have the right to terminate the employee during the probation, if he/she does not fit the position. While on job, Probationary officers will have to take up assignments given by their managers. Along with training, they will also be deployed across various departments of the bank to gain exposure in operations & working of bank. So in short, the PO must be willing to take up any work during the probation period in order to understand the process effectively & to scale greater heights and reach higher positions.

Bank PO Salary: For SBI PO the starting basic pay is 16,900/-(with 4 increments) in the scale of 14500-600/7-18700-700/2-20100-800/7-25700 applicable to Junior Management Grade Scale I. The official will also be eligible for D.A, H.R.A & C.C.A as per rules in force from time to time.

The initial Basic Pay of a Bank Probationary Officer (PO) in other PSU banks is Rs.14, 500 in the scale of 14500-600/7-18700-700/2-20100-800/7-25700 applicable to Grade Scale I. In addition to Basic Pay, bank officers (i.e. Probationary officers / PO / Management Trainees) are eligible for the allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), HRA & CCA.
